Now, Christmas trees are s'posed to all be pretty,
so full and round and perfect ev'ry way.
Not short and brown and begging to be pitied
like the gnarly, twisted one one cloudy day.

Out in the farthest corner of the tree lot,
half-buried 'neath the tall, straight Noble Pines,
there leaned a tree more scrawny than a corn stalk
that- didn't have an ounce of Christmas pride.

   "TAKE ME, TAKE ME", they'd whisper when the wind blows.
   "TAKE ME, TAKE ME. Oh, please take me home."

And day by day, the tree lot got much thinner
as all his handsome brothers went to homes.
Proud Douglas Firs, Long-Needle Pines were winners
as THE UGLIEST CHRISTMAS TREE got more alone.

Then, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day departed.
A clearance sale sold all those that remained.
Except poor Ugly:   he was then discarded,
and left out beside the dumpster in the rain.

   "TAKE ME, TAKE ME", they'd whisper when the wind blows.
   "TAKE ME, TAKE ME. Oh, please take me home."

The kind old man who found him was a doctor.
With loving hands, he used his knife again.
THE UGLIEST CHRISTMAS TREE was filled with honor,
now transformed into a handsome walking cane.

For generations, Ugly served his masters,
a source of pride and beauty through the years.
He'd help them hike much stronger, walk much faster.
Such a useful life that far surpassed his peers.
Such a useful life that far outlived his fears.

   "TAKE ME, TAKE ME out walking where the wind blows.
    TAKE ME, TAKE ME wherever you may roam.
    TAKE ME, TAKE ME out walking with the rainbows.
    TAKE ME, TAKE ME, and then, walk me home."
