It was a dark and stormy morning,
candy wrappers scattered all across my lawn.
But what hit next caught me without warning
when my neighbor's putting up his Santa Claus.
It was a twelve foot monster Santa,
just the kind to dominate the neighborhood.
But isn't this just the First of November?
Halloween's just gone. This can't be any good.
I'm kind of getting TIRED OF CHRISTMAS,
the tawdry whole commercial scene.
It used to start just past Thanksgiving,
but now it starts at Halloween.
Then after that he's got three snowmen,
twenty elves, five deer and Santa's flying sleigh.
He must think he's really quite a showman.
Ev'ry year he adds four things to his display.
CHORUS
Spirit? You want spirit?
I've still got spirits in the trees outside my house.
Spirit? Christmas spirit?
And it'll take at least a month 'til I get the
ghosts and witches down.
He's not alone. The trend is catching
and the stores all egg them on to "beautify".
I've got no right to be kvetching.
For next year, they'll start the Fourth- of July.

Besides witch,
the lights in my house dim when he turns his on.
And he's just getting started ...

he helped Rick Polizzi set up Rick's Boney Island for several years.
Rick would begin preparations for the event each June or July.
