Each year as I get older, my friends say I've been had:
This Santa thing's a dirty trick pulled off by moms and dads.
They can't believe I'm buying this fancy pack of lies.
This year I'm setting out to prove that reindeers really fly.

A cam'ra in the tree house providing photo proof:
the tripwires were the tricky part to stretch across our roof.
My little brother helped me. I'm glad he didn't fall.
That really could have messed things up.
He prob'ly would have bawled.

A   Proof of Santa, we'll get it all on tape.
    Proof of Santa: the truth they can't escape.

With goggles for night vision and cookies out as bait,
we crawled behind the sofa where we patiently would wait.
A cam'ra on the tripod aimed right at fireplace height.
The flashbulb will show Santa's face when he arrives tonight.

        But Santa's so busy bringing gifts to boys and girls.
        But Santa's so busy flying all around the world
        that I guess we must have been near the last
        of good kids on his list.
        & I guess we didn't stretch the tripwires right
        to prove that he exists.
        & I guess we must have dropped off to sleep,
        our chance to catch him missed.

Now Christmas sunlight wakes us, still hidden by the couch.
Embarrassed we slept through it all, we both crawl our way out.
No photos used as ev'dence, but still we can't explain
the gifts beneath a sparkling tree or why just crumbs remain.
