( With all due respect & sympathy for all flood
victims, survivors, rescuers & loved ones )
I don't pretend to know much about life
and even less about the weather.
Whether or not I know from diddly-squat,
we've had an awful lot of rain.
It's not my nature to grumble and gripe,
but now it ain't been getting better.
Weatherman promised we'd see sunshine soon.
Now it's more of the same again.
PLAP, PLOP, PLIP. It's thinned to a constant drip
If only for the moment 'til the next cloud closes in.
PLoP, PLiP, PLeP. You'd better watch your step.
You could land right in a pothole where you'd be
up to your neck.
We've got the mud sliding down from the hills.
We've got the floods out in the valley.
Tally them up: we've lost a lot of stuff,
all floating down to the sea.
I've got a neighbor that's building a boat
and he's been talking "arks" and "cubits".
He's got his back yard filled with animals,
but he won't save a seat for me.
CHORUS
What is it with all this rain?
We've had enough for another ocean.
One week and we've had more rainfall
than Seattle got all last year.
Nowhere for it all to drain,
now that it's filled everywhere that's open.
It doesn't seem to be stopping:
forty days and nights of heaven's tears.
CHORUS
