As aging rockers go, he was the best:
singing, playing, rocking every night.
His whole life was the show. He'd barely rest,
then he's back up there on stage, out under the lights.
The sweat on his body glistens.
A quick wipe with a white towel.
A swig from a fifth of Jackie D.
He turns, embracing the crowd.

    ONE TOO MANY BACK FLIPS into the mosh pit.

As aging rockers know, it doesn't stay:
the rush, the praise, the fame all gone in a flash.
But as long as you don't throw it all away,
you might have a chance to make that mo-ment last.
Adrenalin inside pumping,
his audience coming alive.
As they peak to a height of frenzy now,
he takes his signature dive.

        But his feuding lead guitarist
        takes that moment for his own
        with a solo like he's never played before.
        Stealing all the fans' attention
        while the singer's flight is flown,
        crumpling in a tangled heap out on the floor.

As aging rockers know, you can hit hard,
tripping, falling, plunging any old time.
As aging bones are broke, there goes your art
and replacements are just waiting there- in line.
From his hospital bed he watches
his band back out on the road.
In the blink of an eye, they dropped him cold.
But what a way- to go.
