1: At 1502, there's a yard full of flowers,
& willows, magnolias & mulberry trees.
We'd play kick the can, tag & jump rope for hours,
'til someone moved in there now just this past week.

2: Now, Mom will not let us go out by our lonesome,
forbidden to play anywhere near that yard.
She says we might understand more when we've grown some,
but she doesn't want us to be somehow scarred.

They say he's got short eyes.
Is this new neighbor so straight & narrow?
Or hiding behind a bundle of lies?

3: He doesn't appear to be nearly as vicious
as all of our parents would have us believe.
He smiles & he waves & he calls us kids "Precious".
He's got a kind face.-   How bad can he be?
