1: She had only lost a few good teeth,
but they all were right up front.
& her skin was like a wrinkly, leathery brown.
She was not all that inclined to speak,
but then, she could be quite blunt.
& she made it clear each time she came to town.

They called her Mother Plucker
'cause she'd lived out on a farm.
But she was closer to Ma Barker than a hen.
They cursed that Mother Plucker
as they heard each new alarm.
Gall dang!
She's gone & robbed the bank again!

2: She would sometimes make a bank withdrawal,
but with insufficient funds,
with her old work glove wrapped 'round a forty-four.
She would then depart with all her haul
from whichever way she'd come,
disappearing just a few feet out the door.

Yet still she was as slippery
as a greased pig in a poke.

She turned the cops of Keystone

how an out-of-work young actor might survive.

Now, my film career is right on track
with a lot more ups than downs.
& it's been a while since I've played women's roles.
