While key presidential adviser Karl Rove ("Official A")
slipped off the hook again, his top aide, Lewis "Scooter" Libby,
was indicted for lying about his conversations with reporters
regarding the leak of the name of an undercover CIA agent,
Valerie Plame, in 2003.

This leak was supposedly in retaliation for her husband,
Joseph Wilson, publicly disputing President George W. Bush's
claims that Saddam Hussein had attempted to buy components
for nuclear bombs from Niger.

Bush had dawdled so long in his own in-house investigation
into the leak that Congress finally began its own inquiry.
