The coolest presents on our birthdays
and sun-filled days at the shore.
She took us often to the movies.
Our fav'rite aunt and so much more.
But, time took its toll as we got older.
She found her reasons to withdraw.
We all made attempts to get back closer.
But ev'ry try would hit her wall.

Last week, my brother called to tell me
she'd died alone in her sleep.
There'd be no fun'ral, just cremation.
No need for that long trip home by me.
Tonight, he just caught me as I'm leaving
out the door for my usual Monday gig.
My consent would be needed for a lawyer.
Some developments were turning big.
