An inconvenient truth-, we've really gotten sloppy
with the way we've treated Mother Earth.
Far away too long abused-, we had ample time to stop it
if we'd paid attention to the hurt.
But now has come the time for really getting serious.
We've got to take action now.

    This world ain't GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET.
    It's GOING TO HELL IN A crate,
    all packaged and shipped in its own casket.
    And we're close to being way too late
    to keep it from getting where the hell we're sending it,
    to keep it from all going to waste.
    GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET.
    God, I hope we're not too late.

Parts of the world are burning & other parts are melting
while still other parts are swept away.
Can we afford not learning and just keep right on pelting
Earth with all these poisons ev'ry day?
But now has come the time for really getting serious.
We've got to take action now.

    CHORUS

        This is our home. We're not moving to some other planet.
        This is our home. We're not leaving here at all.
        This is our home.
        If we want to keep on living on this ball of granite,
        better treat it better or we won't be around too long.

Some folks don't want to hear- the truth of what's been happ'ning
or they say it's all God's doomsday plan
or it's conjectured fear- with no proof. But, while they're napping,
we may bring about the end of man.
But now has come the time for really getting serious.
We've got to take action now.

        To paraphrase from an old commercial,
        "It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature".
