Disputed federal research study found pushing trains is not unsafe,
although more people have died in accidents involving pushed trains.

A commuter train, pushed by the locomotive, struck a Jeep
left on the tracks by Juan Manuel Alvarez in aborted suicide attempt
near Glendale, CA.
Derailing, it struck a standing train on a siding & sideswiped
an on-coming train, leaving 11 people killed & 160 injured.
