You travel far- each day to work.
& they would offer a loan or second mortgage your home
just to fill up your tank like a jerk.

2: Then after months of prices still climbing,
we all were stunned when they start to fall.
& in a matter of days, it seemed like ev'ryone pays
a dollar less for each gallon so small.

Gasoline prices were plunging.
Who knew to what bottom they'd drop?
To what did we owe that they'd fallen so low?
To what would we owe when it stopped?

3: No one complained that gas costs were lower.
No one explained how that came to be.
Prop Eighty Seven was killed. They said it was a bad bill
and Big- Oil- had paid huge ad fees.

Aren't you getting tired of being played like a pawn?

when you pay like some chump ev'ry week at the pump?
I tell you I for one feel used like a tool.

4: How come no one is easily startled:
elections done and the gas prices rise?
Or could it just be by chance
that we all went through this dance
and once again prices head to the sky?

We all know how low Big- Oil- will go.
They've done this before and yet still we pay more.
They lulled us all in to a complacent spin
with trick'ry, deception and lies.

Gas/oil prices again plummet just before a national election.
Coincidence?   Hmmmm ...

11-9-06:
Without any explanation or hoopla, gasoline prices
were gradually lowered to "record" lows into Autumn of 2006.
The major oil producers, spearheaded by Chevron,
spent $100 million on negative campaign ads
to defeat California's Proposition 87 for alternative fuels.
As soon as the November 7 election was over, with Prop 87 defeated
(but also most of the Republican politicians who were running for office
- not quite what Big Oil had in mind),
gasoline prices were jacked back up again.
