1. When we were
kids, my uncle wouldn't say too much about the war
or how it came about he'd lost his leg.
But, being
kids, we were quite curious & wanted to know more
about this mystery he'd kept so vague.

2: With his pros-
thetic parts, he'd earned the name "The 16 Dollar Man".
His crazy, mad demeanor brought us fear.
It seems in
1943 or so, the Navy had a plan
to make a ship named Eldridge disappear.

CHORUS:
Experiments come, experiments go,
but this one never moved,
except in ways they never did expect.
Experiments come, experiments go,
but this one was no good
and left a score of sailors in the decks.

3: Magnetic
generators at both ends, with cables 'round the ship,
and tons of test devices stem to stern,
a greenish
cloud-like mist engulfed the boat when they had thrown the switch.
They disappeared a while and then returned.

BRIDGE:
Way beyond degaussing and invisibility,
Project Rainbow took its crew through a warp in time
to a place where Albert Einstein's Unified Field Theory
would be tested with the sailors' lives on the line.

4: Not ev'ry-
body came back with the ship & some were stuck in walls.
Disoriented, some had froze in time.
My Uncle
Dave was sure a lucky one that he'd survived at all.
His will now says his metal leg is mine.
