1: What a rude awakening at 10:30 this evening.
My first thought: "It's an earthquake!
Get the kids out of the house!"
But there's no more shak-ing, just flashing lights & shouting,
excited, angry voices everywhere,
with an awful lot of cursing.

2: No idea what's happening, I grab our video camera.
As I run down the stairway,
a Corvette's up in our yard
through a gaping opening where once our fence was standing.
A man crawls out of the- passenger's seat
as he rather calm-ly pleads:

CHORUS:
"Don't shoot me! I'm unarmed. I'm on your side.
Don't shoot me! I haven't got a weapon. I'm on your side."

3: Sprawled out on the littered ground, he says he's military.
He does just what the cop says.
He complies with each command.
Seems he wants to calm things down: the cop is way excited.
The cop yells, telling him to get- up twice,
when he tries, he's shot- 3 times.

they thought no one would see them?
Making use of deadly force when there clearly was no need?

Where's a cop when you really need them?
I caught it all on videotape. Now, what's to become of me?

4: Called in on the radio, they realize I'm taping.
With more police arriving,
they begin coming for me.
"We will need that camera." They pry it from my fingers,
with crude remarks about my girls and my wife,
trying to intimidate me.

Read the next day's pa-pers, the FBI is quoted:
"A videotape has been volunteered by a cooperative citizen."

1-31-06:
After a short high-speed chase in a Corvette, the passenger,
Elio Carrion, an unarmed Air Force security officer back from Iraq,
was critically wounded by 3 shots from Ivory Webb,
a Sheriff's Deputy in Chino, CA,
after complying with all of the Deputy's commands.

The incident was videotaped by local resident Jose Luis Valdez,
harrassed by police to turn over tape to them.
Reporter interviewing Valdez said the investigators were pretty
heavy-handed in their treatment of the witness.
They tried to intimidate him & confine him to his home.
They told him he was in trouble for talking to the media.
He was afraid for himself, wife & daughters.
It seemed his feelings were that police were going to lose the tape
in a cover-up scheme. He was not so willing to give up the tape.
