There's a delicate lace doily
in the center of each table & stand
& along the back of the
sofa & overstuffed chairs.
But Augusta hasn't dusted:
she's been trying hard to understand
what this Part D means to-
her- & if she should care.

    CONFUSION MADE SIMPLE,
    what about Parts A through C?
    Is this the very best that they could come up with?
    CONFUSION MADE SIMPLE:
    a dose of bureaucracy.
    I think I feel a migraine coming on.

There's a furrow in her forehead
even deeper than her wrin-kled years.
She's perplexed by all of the
double-talk & legalese.
Three diplomas on her mantle,
her concerns develop in-to fears:
what about those souls who don't
speak Americanese?

        "It takes a village"
        to comprehend this plan
        & even then the elders are dumbfounded.
        & they're the illest.
        They've done the best they can,
        but they make no sense
        of something so confounded.

She would like to think that someone
in those hallowed halls of government
might have mercy on all the
peons that are down below
as to write things much more clearly
so you'd understand just what had been meant.
In disgust, she tears up the
forms as her patience erodes.

        I always thought doughnut holes
        were something bakeries invented
        to make more money,
        not Medicare.
        & besides, how many of the elderly
        have computers or the Internet?
