in a joint-state lottery

who lived in the next state.
They had to move in quick
before defenses were in place.

It wasn't that her talking
was incessant all the time,
or even that she chattered
in an irritating whine.
She had this nasty habit
where she'd kick them in the shins
for no apparent reason
or if only on a whim.
