BUT SINCE I'M JUST VANILLA

If I was gay,- I could celebrate my gay- pride.
If I was Latino, I'd be proud of all my brown inside.
If I was black,- I'd find beauty in my African name.
BUT SINCE I'M JUST VANILLA,
I'm supposed to hang my head in shame.
If I was Asian, I'd be steeped in all my heritage.
If I was a woman, I'd be flashing my décolletage.
If I was Muslim, I'd be quoting scripture from the Qur'an.
BUT SINCE I'M JUST VANILLA,
can't express exactly who I am.
Have we taken political correction
to a level absolutely absurd
where somebody could be fired,
fined or sued these days
for the utt'rance of a sensitive word?
Since I am white,- not allowed to have a "white men's" club.
No one gets excluded. Not a soul can feel the least bit snubbed.
Any other race- can leave out somebody not- like them.
BUT SINCE I'M JUST VANILLA,
some distinction would be so condemned.
Ever since I was a child,- I had thought I had an open mind,
no discrimination against others who were not- my kind.
Sensitive and caring, from a little kid to grown-up big.
BUT SINCE I'M JUST VANILLA,
I am branded as a racist pig.
Just because I'm white
doesn't mean I don't empathize with your plight.
And it doesn't give you any right to scream I'm racist.
