Totally nude on the throne
when THE BIG ONE hits home,
my first instinct's to clean up my act.
But then, do I have time
to just wipe my behind?
So, I run for the yard out in back.

Standing totally bare,
I had just made it there
when I see my whole roof hit the floor.
Had I paused one more sec,
I'd be up to my neck
under plaster and timbers and boards.

    Everyone's waiting for THE BIG ONE,
    but nobody wants to admit.
    Everyone's waiting for THE BIG ONE,
    but no one believes it will hit.

Viewing what had been home,
I thank God I'm alone;
all my family's gone for the week.
Pair of boots in the yard
(now the dog poop is hard)
gives me something to put on my feet.

Without any thought more,
I go running next door,
and immediately, I start to dig.
Bernie isn't hurt bad,
but his wife's shape is sad
as she's pinned 'neath the overturned 'fridge.

When the firemen arrive,
they're glad we're all alive,
and proceed to pry Sylvia loose.
But the headlines next day
can't find too much to say
'bout some hero with nothing but boots.
