BEHIND THE LINES
Copyright © 1999 - mickterry.com
1: Out here behind the lines,
the lines aren't drawn too clear.
There's no more black or white.
The only constant's fear.
The enemy can't know it,
but they're only yards away.
As long as I don't blow it,
I might live another day ... behind the lines.
2: Out here behind the lines,
who knows the battle's on?
They go about their lives,
up hours before the dawn.
I almost had to kill one
when he sat near where I hid.
I had to be the still one
'til he finished what he did ... behind the lines.
BRIDGE A:
Under cloak of darkness,
now I finally make my move
out of my concealment
to keep my rendezvous
at twenty-three hundred hours
with seven men of my team.
Each one of us a specialist
to help cripple the old regime.
3: Out here behind the lines,
the lines aren't always straight.
And plans so well-designed
can end up tempting fate.
We planned for each contingency,
but this one caught us cold.
It soon became emergency
and we had to withdraw ... behind the lines.
BRIDGE B:
Miller caught one in the throat
and Jonas lost his head.
Wilkins' guts spilled to the ground
and Knaff was quickly dead.
Rosen's daughter will not see
her dad on Christmas day.
Just Thompson, Masters and myself
survived the deadly fray.
4: Out here behind the lines,
the hunters turned to game
as we retreat and hide:
escape route pre-arranged.
But we get separated
'fore we cover too much ground.
Our squad eliminated,
still we seek not to be found ... behind the lines.
5: Out here behind the lines,
again I hide alone.
But this time in my side:
a bullet through the bone.
If terrorist or hero,
all depends which side you're on.
Enthusiasm: zero.
And I wish I'd never gone ... behind the lines.

To other war song lyrics:
FACE TO FACE
CAN WE TALK?
HEY, ITS NOT ME
CHILDREN OF WAR
THE NUKE'S A HAZARD
BIN LADEN, BIN LADEN
NIGHT OF DYING MOON
ONCE THE DARK WINGS
SADDAMI, SADDAMI, BALONEY
I WANT HIM BACK FROM IRAQ
I'M LOOKING FOR YOUNG MEN
WHY ARE THEY SHOOTING AT ME?
EXPERIMENTS COME, EXPERIMENTS GO
