Out hiking up North, where the west wind blows rough,
I happened across a couple grizzly bear cubs.
So playful and cute, no thought of safety at all,
'til their mom charged across the meadow.

I ran for my life to the neighboring woods.
That bear was so fast. It wasn't looking too good.
She's gaining on me, so I climbed a white spruce.
What the hell was I ever thinking?

A  THE BEAR FACTS:  bears climb trees.
    THE BEAR FACTS:  they eat meat ... like me.
    Seemed a good idea at the time.
    But now she's snapping at my behind.
    THE BEAR FACTS.

Claws digging in bark, growling menacing sounds,
the higher I climb, she's still a couple feet down.
Tree's starting to bend. But will it snap from the weight?
Will I soon be somebody's dinner?

    CHORUS   A

        She swipes. Yowl! Another near miss.
        She swipes. Yowl! Can't talk my way out of this.

Tree's bending in half when the mother hears squeals.
Gray wolf wants her cubs- for his very next meal.
Not far from the ground, she quickly drops from the tree,
flinging me through the air like a slingshot,
slamming hard but still alive up in a maple.
Just a little too close for this hotshot.
Just a little too close for me.
