MICK TERRY BIOGRAPHY
Composer, Co-Lyricist

Mick Terry's musical training began in the dreaded second grade class piano lessons. During high school near Baltimore, MD, where he was in the National Honor Society and President of the Folk Music Society, he began singing harmonies and playing guitar and keyboards in folk, pop and rock groups, featuring songs he had written.

Graduating from Towson University with a degree in Music Theory (studying with renowned Stan Kenton arranger Hank Levy), Mick's career has included working as a record producer and promoter, live performer and session musician and arranger, radio show director and producer, mobile disc jockey, and film, video and multi-media composer, as well as working with legendary producer George Massenburg at a recording studio in Baltimore. He also was a substitute school teacher for several years.

His principal direction has always been toward the writing of music, including for film and video. In 1997, Mick moved to the Los Angeles area to be where the film and music industries collide. For the previous seven years, the emphasis had been primarily on instrumental aspects. But after the move westward, a tremendous surge in the writing of lyrics as well brought about a re-focusing on song-writing, resulting in the copyrighting of over 250 new songs within four years.

His diverse influences range from Bach and Dvorák to The Band, Pink Floyd and Steely Dan, from Brian Wilson and Don Henley to Dave Grusin and Bob James. The music of Mick Terry is unabashedly lyrical, simple in form, yet contrapuntally intricate. With the general direction toward pop-rock, his melodies and arrangements speak a broad spectrum of emotions and genres, with an underlying sense of beauty, dignity and caring, sometimes even allowing his humor to slip through.

Rich feelings are brought to the heart, colorful pictures to the mind. Mick's lyrics lean toward the quasi-intelligent side, in a visually descriptive and emotional style, with ample flavorings of wit, irony and a healthy dosage of story-telling.

Not only have his scores, arrangements, melodies and lyrics won awards, but so has his website, mickterry.com .   Earning over 40 Web awards, it is currently top-ranked (often in top 3) by most major search engines.

It was through just such a search that E. Sandy Powell discovered Mick Terry. After subsequent months of e-mail conversations, they agreed to collaborate. Over a year & a half later, at the premiere of
In Our Hands Now! , they finally met, having worked together exclusively via e-mail, snail mail or telephone.

Mick also created an HO scale diorama of The Bicci & Onri Railroad, which has been on display in museums, libraries, restaurants & businesses since he built it in 1991. Two fictitious stories & 27 highly realistic photos of it have been printed in national publications.

Mick Terry's purpose in life is to create and produce music, lyrics and humor that empower, satisfy and heal millions of people.
